CHRISTO AND JEANNE-CLAUDE MONUMENTAL ART
60 MINS BBC FOUR
Christo and his wife Jeanne-Claude are best known for their extraordinary large scale sculptures. In 2009 they wrapped the Reichstag in Berlin with 100 sqm of silver fabric and in 2016 they allowed us to ‘walk on water ‘when they floated 3 km of golden fabric over the Italian lake Iseo. In 2018 Christo made history with his first major work for the UK, a floating Mastaba on the Serpentine lake in Hyde Park.
Christo and Jeanne-Claude Monumental Art follows the build of the Mastaba, from it’s conception to it’s final unveiling. Weaved through the build Christo recounts his life story in intimate interviews. Charting his escape from Bulgaria in the late 50’s to his arrival in New York in the early 60’s, where he still lives and works to this day.
Adding to the conversation are some of Christo’s friends and fellow artists, including Marina Abramovic, Sir Norman Foster, Michael Bloomberg and Lady Marina Vaizey.
